Red Light

The red light is lit – Will You Defer?
In the first pages of the best-selling book by Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged, "there are a lot of people standing around outside a train stopped to watch a red light. Why the red light is on none of them knows for sure, but it is a signal of danger ahead. Of course, none of them can confirm that there is indeed danger on the track ahead or if it is just another malfunction caused by a deterioration of the society in which many are willing to rely solely on others, accept that there really is a future danger and that if there is a problem someone else will fix it.
When Dagny Taggart, a character in the novel that happens to be vice president of operations for the railroad and the train actually stopped, Crew on matters for which they are arrested, it gets a lot of procrastination on the situation. No one with any authority wants to take the responsibility for what might happen if they continue on despite the red light. Nobody, that is, except Ms. Taggart.
She ordered them to resume the journey that leads to many issues including the requirements that if something should go wrong and there really a future danger, to assume responsibility because no one wants to be accountable for the action. She, of course, replies that she naturally take responsibility. Thus, passengers get back on board and crew plow back and forth on the main line and their destination – without incident mind you.
Had someone not stepped up and took the initiative, however, the train would still sitting along the side of the runway, and everyone would have been late because of a false alarm. And if it was not a person enjoys a weight, but only the passengers themselves demanding humble continue the journey of the train crew would probably have been less inclined to accept because they were ultimately responsible as they were in charge of the train. But since the vice president was there and give orders, and that made things different. The crew was not accountable.
It is important to note that in this scene, however, that the train crew did not put too much of the fight against being ordered to continue on despite the red warning light. In fact, it seems they were well aware that there was no real danger and we were looking not only be guilty if They sometimes make mistakes.
Can you say today's America in a few words?
Whenever I read "Atlas Shrugged "I still believe in finding something new that relates both to how we move to America. That's why I try to reread every couple years. It is a laborious task to be sure. Prose Rand is not exactly well formed and smooth most of the time. But history and lessons more than offset the pain.
The analogy with the red light on our society today, however certainly not one of those things that I recently discovered. I thought a lot over the years.
We have become a nation full red light Watchers. If it continues, many of us are keen attention, even if we know that it's probably a false alarm. We act and because of ignoring the red light means taking responsibility for ignoring it. So it is easier to huddled around the beacon and wait for it gives us permission to proceed or any person having the power to tell us it is OK to ignore it because it is clearly broken.
And then if there are difficulties ahead, it is ok because we are not responsible. Someone else. If we get hurt, there will always be someone to blame. Usually someone has very deep pockets.
Some of the red lights never seem to get out. They just stay red. It Ten years ago we were given a red light, for example, the exploration of our own domestic oil resources in ANWR, a desolate wasteland is a mosquito breeding ground for a few months when the permafrost is thawing in fact. Now, we suffer not the supplies and said it is unnecessary to open the reserves now because it would take years to recover. Perhaps the same ten years that we have already sitting on our hands to extract the oil?
Obviously the problem is not that there is oil does not have. The problem is that we met that first red light when we knew we should not. And now it is shown that the first red light is the problem, We just received another red light to reinforce what we should once again like to stay around to meet earlier, and obviously broken light.
In places like Washington DC a red light was set to tell residents they should not worry about defending themselves. Fortunately, many people do indeed ignore that nonsense but many others stood around watching that red light waiting eagerly to be told that they could keep and bear arms without restrictions that made keeping and bearing the same weapons for defense impossible. That residents will look into this crime the red light running rampant.
In the city of New London, Connecticut, he got a red light on the right of peoples to ownership, except when the government had a legitimate public use for it and was rightly paid to acquire it. Some fought against law-abiding by the red light so that only the Supreme Court their carpets. Others raised their hands and respected by the light that told them what to do. Today, All these properties were taken sit undeveloped as the developer has withdrawn from the case. An agreement which would something not provided for public use, but only for the benefit of politicians.
When the red light next I will leave you guess. But when it is placed before you blindly follow it? Or will you challenge boldly and is unsure whether he actually needs to be ignored? And if you do, you accept the consequences or rewards of your choice?
