Thankyou Big Oil

06/30/2008

There was an amazing announcement made today by Tesla. Tesla is releasing an all-electric five passenger Sedan capable of 225 miles on a full charge for only $60k. Yeah, $60k is still out most people’s price range, but the announcement gets even better. In four years, they plan to have a sub $30k all electric Sedan for sale. Now that would be huge.

For those that don’t know, Tesla currently makes the Roadster, an all-eletric vehicle capable of 220 miles per charge. The battery holds 53 kilowatt hours, which would give you a cost of about $7.50 for a full charge here in Texas. No other company comes close to giving the kind of output of the Tesla.

Just imagine what will happen in four years if Tesla makes good on it’s promise. This will literally change the world. The future is not Ethanol. The future is not a hybrid system. It’s an all electric system fueled by renewable energy sources.

Sure, there are some major hurdles right now with an all-electric system, such as re-charging on the road. It’s near impossible to take long road trips when it takes a couple of hours to re-charge. In time, these problems will be solved. But for right now and for the average commuter not taking road trips, this is the perfect solution. Plug it in at night, wake up to 220 miles.

But it gets even better. There will come a day in the not too far future where it becomes fiscally reasonable to install solar panels on my home. Not only will my home be powered by the sun, but essentially my car as well. The 220 mile power charge will become 100% free.

We can thank the Oil Companies and Saudi’s for their complete stupidity in helping make this possible. If they were smart, they would help keep Oil prices down to discourage any real competitor to their oil system monopoly. But alas, driven by high prices, the world is fed up and ready to change.

And hopefully in four years, many of us regular folks can finally have a real alternative.
