The other day, I offered to help a friend transfer some video footage onto a computer. My firewire cable no longer worked, so I had to go buy a new one. I went to Walmart and found the cables section. And there it was, a Belkin 6 Pin to 4 Pin Firewire cable for $26.
Seemed high. So I took out the iPhone and looked up firewire cables on Monoprice. I found one for $1.95. I left Walmart and went to Dad’s to just borrow one.
It’s amazing just how much companies rip you off when it comes to cables. I found out about Monoprice months ago when I bought my stereo. I needed a couple of HDMI cables. Monster sells them for $120. Other vendors sell them for $50+. Monoprice sells them for around $5.
Surely, there must be a difference in quality between the $5 cable and the $120 cable…but there isn’t. A tech company did a comparison test and found that the Monoprice cables were just as good as the Monster cables as long as the length of the cable was under 25 feet. If it was over 25 feet, the Monster cables are worth the extra money.
So if you are ever in need of cables or wires of any sort, check out Monoprice.com and save yourself some cash.
