Yesterday I had to work late and I was driving home at about 6:30. I pulled onto Highway 114 and started heading east. I had about 100 feet in between me and this utility type of truck in front of me. I looked down at my satellite radio and changed the channel. I heard this high pitched ‘ding’ and looked up. Flying in the air in front of me was this shiny metal pipe that had fallen off the utility truck.
I threw of the brakes and tried to swerve but there really wasn’t any time to react. I thought this shiny pipe was going to shatter my windshield while I was going 75 mph. Amazingly, it hit the front of my hood/bumper and bounced off and over my car. I looked in the rear view mirror to see the pipe bounce off the highway and other cars swerving to avoid it. I think it hit the front of this big truck behind me, but that was it.
Now there is a nice dent/mark on my hood in the shape of a metal pipe about the size of my forearm. Oh well, it’s just a car. Now that I think about it, I kind of wish it had hit my windshield. I have to replace the windshield any way due to a couple of other cracks. But I don’t know if I would’ve been able to drive home had the pipe hit the windshield though…it might have even gone through it had it hit just right.
