Grandpa's Wine

11/02/2006

My Parents recently returned from a two week trip up to Illinois to visit all the family that lives up north. They were having dinner one night with my Grandma and they happened to give me a call. Mom mentioned that they were drinking some of my late Grandpa’s homemade wine. And I instantly asked her to bring a couple bottles home.

Grandpa was a brewer. He and friends made all sorts of wine. They traded grapes. And most of the time, Grandpa made very fruity wine. The bottles that were brought home were Raspberry Wine from 1980.

Being able to partake of Grandpa’s wine years after his death is special. It’s a way to pass on a tradition throughout the family. It’s a way to remember him. I really wish I could’ve learned how to make wine from him. And I’m sure he would have loved to teach me.

So I decided that after my next batch or two of beer, I will have to learn how to brew up some wine. And in the years to come, when Abbie’s children turn of age, they too can remember Grandpa by drinking his wine…

Awww, that’s so neat! I predict tears from Great Grandma when she reads it.
Gives me a whole new perspective on those bottles and bottles of wine!
Abbie is beautiful! Enjoy every moment!
