Musical Blessings

You know how songs take you certain places…I’ve had one of the moments with iTunes playing on shuffle.

Radiohead’s “Kid A” just took me back to driving through the Texas Hills with the sun going down on my way to Camp Eagle after spending a hot day running errands in Kerrville.

Primal Scream’s “Autobahn 66” took me back to the days of when I was first married and completely in love without another care in the world. Just me and my wife, young and not knowing where life would take us.

Face to Face’s “Disconnected” made me daydream of the days in college, just arriving for the fall semester and deciding to head on over to Twin Falls in Charlie’s Jeep to do some Waterfall Jumping in Arkansas. Afterwards, heading over to Whitdog’s to grill burgers with the closest friends I have ever made.

Smashing Pumpkins “Tonight, Tonight” had me reminiscing of the days back in high school where we would hangout at the church on Sunday afternoon’s, pulling out steps to make our next dunk video.

The song “Casino” off of the “Run Lola Run” soundtrack brings back the memories of driving on dirt roads with the windows rolled down in Nebraska while working at Maranatha. We would head over to this one remote area to go cliff jumping, flying over hills with seven people in the ole Buick, quiet as could be as “Casino” blasted, gearing us up for the hike to the cliff as if we were on an African adventure.

Third Eye Blind’s “Wounded” brings back thoughts of riding up the lifts at Vail, CO on a perfect blue sky morning in anticipation of first trails while thinking about how I lucky I was to get to experience that for a winter.

So many songs to accompany the advertures from coast to coast, border to border. Across the atlantic. Across the Mediterranean. All of those were times where I could fit all of my belongings in one car. Life was free to be lived anywhere…

My life so far has been a blessing. I’ve been truly lucky to experience all what I have experienced. Music always has a way to remind me of that.
