Pool

06/13/2006

We bought one of those inflatible pools, aka “poor mans pool”, about a month ago. It was a painful process of setting it up. The ground has to be perfectly level and it took a lot of work to make it that way.

The first time I filled it up, it was lopsided because the ground wasn’t perfectly level. So the next morning I drained it by pushing down the top and letting gallons of water rush out instantly. I practically flooded our neighbors back yard. But they were very nice about it. I later learned that there is a hose connection and you are supposed to slowly drain it into the street.

After properly leveling the ground and filing it up, the pool has worked just fine, cooling us off from the Texas heat. But just today I jumped in and noticed this sprout of grass at the bottom. I took a look at it and that damn sprout of grass had grown through the pool. Luckily the pool wasn’t leaking, from what I could see. But I decided to go ahead and drain it, the proper way this time, and tomorrow I will patch it up just to make sure that it doesn’t grow into a big hole. Who would have thought though that a little piece of grass could potentially take this pool down.

We actually got our water bill from when we filled it up the first time, and it only went up $20. So not too bad at all.
