Went to Wal-Mart “Upscale Version” today and picked up a Chimay Ale, Stone Brewing Company IPA, Dirty Dick’s Ale, and a Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse all in a pint-sized or bigger bottles.
Wal-Mart is starting to reach out to Northern Texans by introducing “upscale stores”. That means nicer stuff in a more visually appealing environment. Although they could still work on their beer selection, it’s a hell of alot better than what they used to have and it’s still at Wal-Mart prices.
I have to say I am impressed by how the upscale Wal-Mart store looks and works. It’s visually appealing with wooden floors, soothing tones and colors, a modern coffee shop, ethnic foods, quality organic fruits and vegetables, flat screen plasma’s, spacious aisles, a book area that looks like a Barnes and Noble store, and check-out counters within each department.
The upscale store is in Plano and if it turns out to be a hit, look for these stores to invade a neighborhood near you.
