8125

03/27/2006

We recently renewed our Cingular contract. That meant getting a new cell phone. I decided to go big this time, knowing that if I didn’t like the phone, I could sell it on ebay and make a profit and just continue using my old, trusty phone.

So I got the CIngular 8125. It runs Windows Mobile 2005 and has WiFi and a slew of other features. I brought it home and began messing with it. It took awhile to get it hooked up to my home network. I had to adjust a few settings on my Airport Exress to get it working. But it was pretty cool to be able to get on the internet from my phone.

After awhile, I decided to sell the phone on ebay. I just didn’t like using Windows Mobile. Maybe it’s because I’ve been on a Mac too long, but Windows Mobile just feels hard to navigate, find files, install programs, etc… After playing with it, I just wanted to go back to an OS X operating system.

So alas, here I am, waiting once again for Apple to release the perfect Phone/PDA/iPod all-in-one device that I can sync up to my Mac.

By the way, Internet Spiders starting invading my comments section. So I rigged up a key password. When submitting a commit, make sure you type in the key or the comment will disappear. It’s a quick fix till I have the time to come up with a better solution.

I hear ya matt. I had a windows mobile phone too, and stopped using it in favor of a phone that just does phone stuff. I had the same experience as you. The windows mobile stuff just got in the way. The Treo seems like it might be nicer, since i think we mac folk tend to jive with the palm OS more than the windows. But I’m still a bit apprehensive about trying to use a pda that tries to be a phone, when the majority of the time i’ll be just using it as a phone.
