Eight Weeks

02/19/2006

This week we have our first sonogram for the child to come. Sarah is 8 weeks into the pregnancy. I haven’t thought much about it. It still just doesn’t seem real. Sarah feels crummy most days and tired all day long. She puked for the first time this morning.

On Saturday, Sarah and I watched “Traffic” again. I have to say it’s one of my favorite movies. I love movies that tackle difficult subjects and don’t offer a solution…showing all sides and leaving the viewer thinking about the issue and wrestling with it.

Whenever I go to church and see someone who I haven’t seen in the past few weeks, one question always arises…”What have you been up to?”

And the answer is always the same. It’s the same thing I do day in and day out. Go to Work. Come Home. Eat. Have a beer from some foreign country. Watch TV. Get on the internet. Read. Go To Bed.

That’s my life…with a child on the way.

Where does diaper changing and spanking work into your pattern there? heh. You’ll be an awesome dad Matt.

here’s what your schedule might look like…
wake up…change diapers, feed formula…feed yourself…go to work…come home…change diapers, feed formula…feed yourself…change diapers, feed formula…have a beer (Lone Star)...change diapers, feed formula while watching TV (Veggie Tales)...read (Dr. Seuss)...Go to bed…wake up … change diapers…go to bed…wake up (console crying baby)...go to bed…wake up (try to console crying baby)...quit trying to sleep…watch tv…(at least, this is somewhat what I expect to occur in my schedule…)

Ironically, the realization that my life is no longer my own is the most liberating and redemptive realization I’ve ever had…before, it all seemed so unproductive. God bless you Matt! We are all apart of the great human assembly line in the glorious factory of God! hahaha…
