Can Apple Overtake Dell?

11/10/2005

Many won’t disagree that OS X is superior to Windows. And on the other side, Windows is still essential to run many programs for various industries. So what if you could have both, and the only way to do that was on a Mac?

Apple has already said that it wouldn’t prevent users from loading other operating systems on it’s intel machines, but it will prevent OS X from being loaded onto machines that aren’t macs. So where does this leave us?

Apple recently filed for a patent that seems to describe a system whereby users would be able to load one operating system as their “primary OS” and then load another operating system as their “secondary OS.”

If Apple really is willing to openly allow a second operating system to be loaded onto their computers and make it easy for users to do so, I could see many more folks switching to Macs, even to the point of overtaking Dell. All excuses would be zapped away for a user to not get a Mac.

I know that’s why I am waiting this summer to upgrade our computer to a new MacIntel. As much of a perversion as it would seem by putting Windows on a Mac, it does give me both options if I would ever need them. And it’s also another reason to go buy more Apple stock.
